A table at Lán Tíng is not simply a meal it is an inheritance.
Founded in 2019 by Executive Chef Mei Lin and her partner David Zhao, Lán Tíng was born from a singular conviction: that the grandeur of Chinese cuisine deserved a stage as serious as any in Paris or Tokyo. Drawing on generations of Cantonese and Sichuan tradition, Chef Lin reimagines classical technique through a modern lens without apology, without compromise.
The name 蘭亭 — Orchid Pavilion — honours the legendary gathering of 353 AD, where the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi and his guests composed poetry beside a winding stream. It is the animating spirit of this kitchen: refined craft, quiet beauty, and the belief that the highest pleasures are found in unhurried attention.

The Dining Room
A space conceived as a conversation between East and West — where every surface, every shadow, every breath of air has been considered.
Lán Tíng's dining room seats 48 guests across two intimate rooms, each possessing its own character while sharing a singular atmosphere. The space was designed by Washington architect Grace Huang, whose guiding principle was restraint: nothing superfluous, nothing extraneous, nothing that does not earn its place.
Stone floors sourced from Fujian province meet hand-applied lacquer wall panels in deep aubergine. Brass candlelight diffuses through silk lanterns overhead. Seating is unhurried; tables are generously spaced. The ambient sound is calibrated to permit unhurried conversation at a murmur.
To dine here is to enter an architecture of deliberate slowness — a room designed not to impress at first glance, but to reveal itself gradually, over the course of an evening.

Private Dining
For those occasions that call for something beyond the ordinary — a dining experience shaped entirely around you and your guests.
Lán Tíng's private dining room accommodates up to 14 guests in complete seclusion. It is a space without compromise: the same stone, lacquer, and candlelight as the main room, drawn inward into something more intimate still.
The room is available for corporate dinners, milestone celebrations, family gatherings, and bespoke chef's table experiences. Chef Mei Lin works directly with private dining guests to design menus that speak to the occasion — whether a focused six-course progression or a lavish multi-course feast from the classical repertoire.
All private dining enquiries are handled personally by our events team. We ask for a minimum of two weeks' notice for bespoke menu design, and recommend enquiring early for high-demand dates.

A list conceived not as a catalogue, but as a meditation on affinity — the unexpected harmony of East and West at the table.
Lán Tíng's wine program comprises more than 200 labels, assembled over five years by our head sommelier. The list eschews the conventional hierarchies of fine dining: Burgundy and Baijiu are considered equals; a producer from Ningxia may sit beside one from Ribera del Duero. What unites them is a single question — does this wine make the food more alive?
Our sommelier offers tableside guidance for every guest, from those who arrive with clear preferences to those who prefer to be led. Wine pairings for the Chef's Tasting Menu — five curated pours chosen to accompany each course — are available at $110 per person.
A rotating selection of ten wines is offered by the glass each evening, always including at least two Chinese producers. The full list is available in print at the table and on request.
